Martina Hollearn, PhD
Welcome to my online portfolio
My name is Martina Krisztina Hollearn, and please call me Martina. I am a bilingual cognitive neuroscientist, artist, and philanthropist. On this website you will find the collection of my works in the past decade from academic research to artwork.
My research expertise is in understanding how memory processes work to create long-term memories and how healthy aging differs from aging with dementia. My recent work spans emotions, memory, aging and dementia, clinical assessments, individual differences, epilepsy, clinical translation, advanced statistics, brain anatomy, direct brain stimulation, and patient-focused research practices. Before graduate school, I worked on research topics of personality, working memory, attention, memory, anxiety, development, aging and dementia types. My collective works in the past decade have implications for how we understand memory processes and why our recollections of our lives change or disappear completely. I worked with healthy young adults, healthy older adults, older adults with mild cognitive impairment, adults with Down syndrome, adults with suspected Alzheimer’s disease, adults with drug-resistant epilepsy, children, and rodents. Throughout my research I used surveys, clinical assessments, MRI, fMRI, histology of rodent brain tissue, retrograde neural tracing, confocal microscopy, electrophysiology of live human tissue, direct brain stimulation of deep brain structures with stereotactic electrodes, eye-tracking, human biometrics (heart rate, breathing, skin conductance), and scalp EEG.
My background has taken me from personality and attention research in psychology to some of the most advanced cognitive neuroscience practices known today with human brain stimulation.
